The Westphalian Public Transportation Company [WVG]
is the administrative company overseeing several municipal transportation companies in Westphalia
[Germany]. Its transportation network stretches from
Lower Saxony [Germany] and Holland all the
way to Hesse [Germany].
Aside from a railway company, bus companies also provide public
transportation in 7 districts and 87 cities and municipalities. WVG
companies carried over 64 million passengers in 2004 with around 1,000
privately owned and hired busses on over 750 routes with a length
totalling 15,000 km.
In 2001, WVG was commissioned by the regional transport
ministry with setting up a "Passenger service center for NRW" due to their
innovations and comprehensive entrepreneurial activities in the area of
transportation management. Within the scope of this service center, WVG
organised and developed the nationwide public transport "NRW Smart Number
- 0 180 3 / 50 40 30".
