Sydney relies on a voice portal by Excelsis for its public transport
A consortium led by Serco and mdv wins international tender
Stuttgart, 10/15/2009 – Today, David Campbell, Minister for Transport of New South Wales, Australia’s most populated state, awarded a major order for a modern passenger information system on behalf of New South Wales Transport and Infrastructure.
Excelsis forms part of the consortium led by Serco and Mentz Datenverarbeitung GmbH (mdv – Munich) which won the tender to realise and operate the system.
Following an international tender, New South Wales chose to accept the offer of this consortium that is already implementing a similar system in Dubai. Mdv is providing a key component of this modern passenger information solution: EFA, an intermodal information system which helps the users to plan their journey and keeps them updated throughout the whole trip. Passengers can either use the traditionally important information desk by calling 131500, a well known number in Sydney and New South Wales, but they can also access the information via the internet and via mobile phones.
Excelsis delivers the entire voice portal infrastructure, based on the Excelsis Phone Application Server – a high performance OEM edition of Voxeo’s VoiceObjects Server. On the basis of the Excelsis Speaking Timetable, the solution will be gradually extended with additional voice self-services, such as prequalification, information on fares, service interruptions and lost property as well as customised messages.
